Celebrating All Administrative Professionals!

National Administrative Professionals’ Day, also known as Secretary Day or Admin Day, is celebrated every year on the Wednesday of the last full week in April. This year, it falls on April 23, 2025. This day recognizes and thanks administrative assistants, secretaries, and other office professionals for their invaluable contributions to the workplace.

In this blog, we’ll discuss how to celebrate the administrative professionals in your life.

Celebrating All Administrative Professionals!

What is Administrative Professionals’ Day?

Administrative Professionals’ Day recognizes and celebrates the hard work of administrative professionals who keep an office running without issue. It was first observed in 1952. The United States Secretary of Commerce at the time, Charles Sawyer, designated June 4th as National Secretaries Day. Then, in 1955, the National Secretaries Association, now known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), changed the date.

Who Are Administrative Professionals?

Administrative professionals are employed at most companies and in nearly all industries. They assume various positions, including administrative assistants, office managers, accounting clerks, executive assistants, secretaries, material recording clerks, departmental assistants, receptionists, and many more.

These roles encompass a range of duties, including scheduling, preparing documents, organizing workspaces, bookkeeping, budget planning, taking inventory, purchasing equipment and supplies, maintaining filing systems, and other tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the workplace. Typically, the work done by these individuals is often invisible to most. Invisible labor refers to everyday tasks that people usually don’t notice being done because they are performed consistently.

The work of these individuals benefits everyone in an organization. Without these dedicated employees ensuring their behind-the-scenes duties are completed, offices would come to a halt.

Celebrate This Day with Us

Take National Administrative Professionals’ Day as an excellent opportunity to show appreciation to the administrative professionals in your life. They are the ones who perform the invisible labor that keeps your office running smoothly. Below are some ideas on how to show your appreciation for those diligent and hardworking individuals.

Give Them a Personalized Card

A simple and cost-effective way to express gratitude to the administrative professionals in your life is to give them a card. Purchase a card and discreetly pass it around the office, asking all team members to sign it with a message of thanks. The more personal the card, the better. It will show the individual that what they do is actually recognized and appreciated.

Nowadays, using an e-card is just as effective. Many companies provide free options, such as American Greetings. It allows you to choose from many different designs, personalize it for them, and even add a digital gift card if you choose.

Buy Them Lunch

Take them out for lunch. If there are scheduling conflicts, then either ordering delivery to the office or providing them with a gift card to their favorite lunch spot would also be a nice gesture.

Utilize social media! Post about them on your organization’s social media pages, email all employees detailing their accomplishments, write a blog about them for the company’s website, etc. Give them the recognition that is well-earned and well-deserved.
