Meet Practical Nursing Student Alison Galan!
Alison Galan started her journey at West Virginia Junior College in December of 2022. Alison chose the Practical Nursing program, which allows her to obtain her diploma in 12 months. She stated that she chose the West Virginia Junior College Bridgeport because “I always wanted to start my career as LPN for more hands-on experience.”
Alison attended another college before enrolling at WVJC. She went to Pierpont Community and Technology College. She stated that she enjoyed the program; however, they closed their LPN program. Alison decided to look into other Practical Nursing programs, and that is when she discovered WVJC from a friend that was attending the program. Her friend shared her experience, and Alison decided to call and make an appointment to tour the school and eventually enroll.
When Alison was asked about her favorite part of attending WVJC, she stated, “my favorite part is the fast-paced and small classes.” Alison’s favorite teacher was Mrs. Prusa. “Mrs. Prusa was very outgoing, and her fun personality made learning fun with her.”
One of the courses Alison was most excited about was her obstetrics clinical rotations. She was excited to experience the laboring part of the OB clinical rotation.
Alison currently works at UHC WVU Medical Center as a nurse technician. Alison’s ideal job after graduation would be to work on the medical-surgical nursing floor. This opportunity would allow Alison to use all the skills she has learned from her clinical experiences here at West Virginia Junior College. She is excited cause graduation is just around the corner. She is nervous about taking her NCLEX*, but she is confident that she will pass it. She also states that WVJC has prepared her for the future by having clinical experiences at multiple facilities. When asked what does the next five years hold? Alison stated she “would like to obtain her Registered Nursing license.”
In Alison’s free time, she enjoys going shopping and going on walks. She also enjoys hanging out with her twin sister Alexis. Alison and Alexis are both enrolled in the LPN program. They have enjoyed going through this journey together. They not only graduated from Bridgeport High School together, but they will also graduate from West Virginia Junior College of Bridgeport together as well.
