Allison Wright-George – Medical Coding Graduate
Updated Content 10/25/2023
Before enrolling at WVJC Online in the Medical Coding program, Allison worked in several different fields. She sold modular homes, worked for the state police, and worked at the Mountaineer Challenge Academy. However, none of these jobs seemed to stick. Allison had previously graduated from a four-year university with a degree in journalism.
Allison chose to attend WVJC Online for a few different reasons. She believed that the degree was worth investing in. It was more than just a certification, and the aspect of it being online was very enticing. The field she chose allowed for the option of working from home, flexibility, and the ability to create her own schedule eventually, which was one of her main priorities.
Allison mentioned several things when talking about her favorite aspects of WVJC. She loved how helpful the instructors were at WVJC. She felt like just a number and a dollar amount at her former college. At WVJC, she was able to create and sustain lasting relationships, even in an online environment. The feedback she was able to get from her instructors and classmates allowed her to be a better student and take more away from the program.
While at WVJC, her favorite instructor was Dr. Kacey Eagle. Dr. Eagle’s hands-on approach to the program and her motivation to help us succeed is inspiring to her students. “If you want it badly enough, you will work for it!” Allison said that Dr. Eagle’s pep talks to students encouraged her to give 100% to the program so she could succeed.
Since graduating from the program, Allison has become a Professional Coding Specialist I with WVU Medicine. She just recently completed her apprenticeship for her Certified Professional Coder certification*. As a benefit of the program, the Institution will pay for the cost of two attempts to sit for the Certified Professional Coder exam.
Allison is happy to recommend friends and family to WVJC. The investment of the instructors and their motivation to help students succeed makes it a great option for people looking to begin a new career. “If you demonstrate that you have passion and drive for your future career, they will help you,” said Allison.
