Blood Drive at Cross Lanes Campus

On Monday, November 11th, West Virginia Junior College (WVJC) in Cross Lanes teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive. This event, held on Veterans Day, exemplified the spirit of giving back to those in need. As we honor our veterans, WVJC nursing students and staff collaborated to make a meaningful impact by donating blood.

The drive was an opportunity to contribute to saving lives, supporting patients undergoing surgeries and cancer treatments, and aiding those with chronic illnesses and trauma.  It also fosters a sense of community service among WVJC’s nursing students. These students, passionate about their future roles in healthcare, were actively involved in supporting the event. Their participation emphasized the importance of practical experience, hands-on learning, and community involvement—values that WVJC consistently promotes.

The American Red Cross, founded by Clara Barton in 1881, is dedicated to serving those in need. It is chartered by the U.S. federal government to provide its services to the American armed forces and provide relief during disasters in the United States and worldwide. The Red Cross also serves the Central Appalachia Region, relying on local events to sustain critical blood supplies, especially during the colder months when donations tend to decline.

Our blood drive was a success, with numerous participants stepping forward to help save lives, showcasing the generosity of the WVJC nursing students. Over 60 WVJC students donated blood, which helps support up to 180 people. As we look back on this event, we thank everyone who organized and participated in the blood drive and encourage more involvement in future blood drives to continue this impactful tradition of giving back.
