What Is Business Administration/ Human Resources?

Human resource professionals are crucial members of any business organization. Their duties can vary based on their work environment, but they are essential in managing employees, ensuring office productivity, and upholding company values.

In today’s workplace, HR professionals play a key role in ensuring an organization’s success. They create an inclusive environment that promotes fairness, diversity, and productivity. Human resource departments are heavily involved in hiring and training new employees, dealing with workplace conflict, ensuring labor law compliance, and fostering a positive workplace culture. Human resource professionals often work behind the scenes, but they work tirelessly to cultivate an effective work environment.

WVJC’s Online Business Training

In WVJC’s human resources training program, students learn core business skills that can be applied in a wide range of settings. The program focuses on human resources and employment law while touching on other aspects of business administration. Some of the skills students can expect to learn include:

  • Recruitment and Selection
  • HR Development and Operations
  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Employee Relations
  • Health, Safety, and Security
  • Training and Development
  • Legal Compliance

The curriculum is designed to prepare students for entry-level business administrative positions, such as human resources assistant, benefits coordinator, office manager, recruiter, and more.

Throughout the program, students will take online general business and specialized human resource courses that prepare them for their careers. Then, at the end of the program, students will complete an externship experience with a real-world employer to gain valuable industry experience and build their professional network.

While students will take various business-related courses, the program’s core classes center around preparing students to sit for a valuable industry-specific certification. Students have the opportunity to take the HR Certification Institute’s (HRCI)® aPHR certification* at their own expense, if they choose.
