A Strong Educational Foundation

Heather is no stranger to the halls of WVJC. She began her academic journey at Liberty High School, graduating in 2006, and shortly after, she enrolled at WVJC to further her education. In 2008, she proudly graduated with an Associate Degree in Medical Administration/Information Technology. This program provided her with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the administrative and technological aspects of the medical field, setting the foundation for her future career.

Her firsthand experience as a WVJC student gives her a unique perspective in her current role—she knows what it’s like to be in the students’ shoes, which helps her connect with and support them more effectively.

Early Career Experiences and Growth

Heather’s professional journey began in a doctor’s office, where she worked to convert patient files into digital PDFs, ensuring that medical records were properly organized and accessible. This role introduced her to the importance of efficiency and accuracy in administrative tasks—skills that continue to serve her well today.

Following this, she briefly worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a nursing home. This hands-on experience in healthcare gave her insight into the daily responsibilities of medical professionals and reinforced her desire to work in an environment where she could help people.

While studying at WVJC, Heather also took part in a work-study program, gaining valuable experience outside the classroom. She was placed off-campus at the Literacy Volunteers in Clarksburg, where she had the opportunity to assist with literacy programs. This role not only enhanced her administrative skills but also fueled her passion for helping others—a theme that remains central to her work at WVJC today.

A Role That Found Her

Heather’s path to becoming a WVJC employee wasn’t something she had planned—it was an opportunity that came to her! She recalls that WVJC “chose” her when she was offered a position to help with admissions. Her natural ability to connect with students and her firsthand knowledge of WVJC’s programs made her a great fit for the role.

Over time, her responsibilities expanded, and she transitioned into her current position as an administrative assistant. In this role, Heather plays a vital part in ensuring smooth operations within the college, assisting students, faculty, and staff in various capacities.

The Best Part of the Job? The Students!

When asked about her favorite part of working at WVJC, Heather’s answer is simple: the students. She finds joy in interacting with them daily, offering guidance, encouragement, and support. Her role allows her to be a consistent presence in their academic journey, and she takes pride in knowing that her work contributes to their success.

Heather understands that pursuing higher education can be challenging, and she strives to make the process as smooth and welcoming as possible for every student she encounters. Whether helping with administrative tasks, answering questions, or being a friendly face, she loves being part of the WVJC community.

Motivation and Teamwork

Heather draws her motivation from her family. She admires how hard they work to achieve their goals, which, in turn, inspires her to do the same. Seeing her loved ones put in the effort to succeed pushes her to continue striving for excellence in her own career.

She is also incredibly proud of the WVJC team she works with every day. She describes her colleagues as dedicated, hardworking, and supportive, and she values the collaborative spirit that exists within the college. To her, WVJC is more than just a workplace—it’s a community of professionals working toward a common goal: student success.

Looking Toward the Future

Heather has a clear vision for her long-term career goals, and they align perfectly with WVJC’s mission. Her primary goal is to continue supporting future students, ensuring they have the guidance, resources, and encouragement they need to reach their full potential.

She sees her role as an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives, whether through direct assistance or behind-the-scenes administrative work. As WVJC continues to grow and evolve, Heather looks forward to playing a key role in shaping the student experience.

A Unique Family Bond Through Karate

Outside of work, Heather and her family share a unique and exciting passion—karate! She, her husband, and their three sons all practice martial arts together, making it a special family activity. What’s even more impressive? All three of her sons have earned their black belts!

Practicing karate as a family has strengthened their bond and instilled important values like discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. Heather takes great pride in her children’s achievements and enjoys being part of an activity that challenges and empowers them.
