On Friday, November 11, West Virginia Junior College held a Mass Casualty Incident Simulation for nursing students. This simulation is critical to the real-world training that we provide to our students. The simulation consisted of live actors and manakins. Students went through two floors where they assessed patients using a triage system of colored tags to identify the severity of the injury.
The purpose of these mock disasters is to prepare our nursing students for situations that they may have to deal with in their careers. Doing so in a controlled environment allows the students to ask questions and gain experience to ensure that they are fully prepared for anything they may experience in the nursing field.
