Nikki Armstrong started her journey at West Virginia Junior College in August 2021. Nikki chose the Clinical Medical Assistant program, which allows her to obtain her associate’s degree in 18 months. She chose the West Virginia Junior College Morgantown because “I liked the smaller class sizes and the fast-track programs that WVJC offers.”

Before attending WVJC, Nikki was a full-time mom and CNA. Having never been to college before, Nikki was concerned about how she’d fit in with her classmates, but she quickly discovered that these other students and faculty would become her second family! According to Nikki, “Carrie Friend is my favorite teacher because you can tell she cares for her students and their success. My favorite class by far has been Clinical Medical Procedures (CMP) because I was able to learn a wide variety of skills that I am going to be able to put to work!”

Nikki enrolled in the Clinical Medical Assistant program because she enjoys caring for others. Nikki says she most looks forward to completing the externship course where she will gain practical experience where she can continue to learn and grow.” Her favorite part of attending WVJC (aside from the practical knowledge that she has gained) is “the friendships I have developed.”

After completing the Clinical Medical Assistant program, Nikki would ultimately like to become an RN and hopes to take the time immediately after graduating to work in-field as a CMA before eventually applying to an RN program. According to Nikki, “WVJC has prepared me for the future; I have learned all the skills I need to put my degree to work!”

When asked if she would recommend WVJC to a friend, Nikki was sure to note, “YES! Thanks to Carrie, the small class sizes, and the fast-track degrees, it is a great place to attend, and I highly recommend it!”
