Olivia began her nursing career in one of the most emotionally charged and rewarding fields: labor and delivery. For five years, she worked with expectant mothers, guiding them through one of the most significant moments of their lives. This experience laid the foundation for her passion for patient care and her ability to remain calm under pressure.

From there, Olivia expanded her horizons, transitioning into pediatric travel nursing. This role allowed her to work with children in various healthcare settings across the country, further enriching her clinical skills and adaptability. Eventually, her career led her to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) in primary care, a role she cherishes for its focus on building long-term relationships with young patients and their families.

Olivia’s transition from bedside nursing to education was a natural progression. At WVJC Bridgeport, she now has the opportunity to shape the next generation of nurses, an experience she describes as deeply fulfilling.

“I enjoy getting to be a part of students’ educational process,” she shares. She stated that there’s nothing quite like seeing the moment when a concept finally clicks or watching a student grow in confidence during their clinical rotations.

While she enjoys teaching all aspects of nursing, clinical instruction holds a special place in her heart. Olivia states that clinicals are where students really start to connect theory with hands-on training. It’s amazing to watch them take what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it in real-world settings.

As a single mom, Olivia’s son is the driving force behind her success and motivation. Her son inspires her every day to be the best person, nurse, and mom she can be. Balancing the demands of teaching, practicing as a nurse practitioner, and raising a child is no small feat, but Olivia approaches it with grace and determination.

Her pride in her career is matched only by her pride in her son. “I am most proud of my son and my career,” she says, a testament to the love and dedication she pours into her dual roles as a mother and a professional.

Olivia is not one to rest on her laurels. Her long-term goals reflect her commitment to both personal and professional growth. She plans to continue teaching and practicing in primary care, ensuring that she remains at the forefront of both education and clinical practice.

In addition, Olivia has set her sights on earning her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. This advanced credential will not only enhance her expertise but also open new opportunities for leadership and innovation in nursing education and healthcare.

While Olivia’s professional achievements are impressive, her personal life is just as dynamic. Many of her students may be surprised to learn that she has a passion for travel and breeds miniature dachshunds. These hobbies provide her with a creative and relaxing outlet, balancing the demands of her busy schedule.

For Olivia, teaching is about more than just imparting knowledge; it’s about making a difference in the lives of her students. She strives to instill in them the same passion for nursing that has driven her throughout her career.

Her advice to aspiring nurses? “Stay curious, stay compassionate, and never stop learning. Nursing is a field that challenges you every day, but it’s also one of the most rewarding careers you can pursue.”

Olivia’s story is a testament to the power of hard work, resilience, and passion. From her early days as a labor and delivery nurse to her current role as a beloved WVJC instructor, she has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence in both her personal and professional life.

Her journey serves as an inspiration to her students, showing them that with dedication and perseverance, they, too, can achieve their dreams. Whether she’s guiding a student through a clinical rotation, caring for a young patient, or cheering on her son, Olivia embodies the true spirit of nursing.
