Creating a lasting relationship with our externship sites is essential to provide our students with a quality hands-on experience. At Regional Eye Associates, our Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) students, Medical Office Administration (MOA) students, and Medical Coding (MC) students receive just that and more.
According to their website, Regional Eye Associates is dedicated to “enhancing the quality of life for every individual [they] treat by helping each to see his or her best.” They are “committed to responding compassionately to patients’ individual needs and to achieving the highest standards of eye care throughout life.”
Regional Eye Associates, like many businesses, had to adapt throughout the COVID pandemic. The last two and a half years have forced people to utilize virtual work, learning, and communication, and regional has done just that.
They maximized their efficiency by improving technology, and now it is a part of their day-to-day operations. This provides WVJC students the opportunity to experience future work as we move towards a virtual work environment and as technology continues to become the key to success for businesses and healthcare professionals.
Regional Eye Associates offers a “wide variety of eye care solutions including cataract surgery with options of multifocal, accommodating and astigmatism (Toric) intraocular lenses (IOLs), blade-free custom LASIK, retinal and vitreous surgery, glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, Visian Intraocular Collamer Lenses (ICL), diabetic exams and treatment of retinopathy, cornea transplants, a wide variety of eyeglasses, and contact lens fittings. [The] team includes experienced optometrists and ophthalmic surgeons, including the cornea and retinal subspecialists.”
Having WVJC students complete their externships with Regional Eye Associates gives them an opportunity to get hands-on experience and insight into a specific part of the medical field.
Human Resources Director Velvet Griffith works closely with WVJC’s Externship Coordinator Carrie Friend to place students to ensure that each of their students receives the best educational experiences possible. Not only are they learning clinical skills but also front office procedures.
