If you have the goal of becoming a nurse in West Virginia, keep reading to learn how WVJC School of Nursing can provide you with the education you need, while WVU Medicine’s Aspiring Nurse Program can help support you during your education and into your career.
What Is The Aspiring Nurse Program?
The Aspiring Nurse Program is an initiative of WVU Medicine that provides financial and career support to full-time nursing students while enrolled at select nursing schools in West Virginia and the surrounding states.
Nursing students accepted into the Aspiring Nurse Program will receive up to $25,000 for personal or academic expenses. The program is designed to allow students to prioritize their education without the added stress of paying bills and the cost of living. Additionally, the program provides career security, allowing program graduates the opportunity to interview for a bedside nurse position at one of WVU Medicine’s participating hospitals.
Along with financial assistance, the program provides student nurses with valuable connections and career opportunities upon graduation and passing the NCLEX-RN* examination. Participants in the Aspiring Nurse Program will receive a sign-on bonus and funding over four semesters in exchange for a three-year work commitment with a partnering WVU Medicine facility.
“The Aspiring Nurse partnership between WVJC and WVU Medicine offers invaluable support to our student nurses by providing financial resources to help overcome personal challenges. This allows them to concentrate more fully on nursing school,” said WVJC School of Nursing CEO Chad Callen. “Additionally, the program ensures a guaranteed job placement upon completion, offering a significant incentive and security for selected students.”

Why Choose a WVJC Nursing Program?
Attending a Nursing program at WVJC provides student nurses several advantages that help them become registered nurses. Our direct admission educational approach allows students to enter nursing courses immediately upon being accepted into the program. This direct admission approach saves students valuable time and money by not spending years taking courses unrelated to their nursing education.
Additionally, WVJC’s nursing programs are designed with an accelerated schedule, meaning students will complete their education in less time than in a traditional nursing school. Our 18-month associate degree programs are completed in shorter increments rather than semesters with long breaks in between. This allows students to gain the knowledge and skills they need to begin their nursing career quickly.
WVJC School of Nursing also strongly emphasizes preparation for the NCLEX-RN* licensure examination. Upon completing their nursing training program, students will possess the knowledge, skills, and confidence to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses and begin their careers as professional nurses.
In addition to these educational advantages, WVJC student nurses benefit from real-world experience. Our students can gain experience in hospital and medical settings through partnerships such as the Aspiring Nurse Program. WVJC School of Nursing has partnered with medical facilities across West Virginia to provide clinical experiences where students can immerse themselves into the facility culture and build their professional network before graduating.
