Our History

West Virginia Junior College was established in 1892 in Charleston, West Virginia. WVJC expanded its program offerings, student services, and employer services to Monongalia in 1922 and Harrison counties in 2001, establishing campuses in Morgantown, WV, and Bridgeport, WV.

WVJC has continued to remain on the cutting edge of education to ensure that students have academic options that meet the demands of an ever-changing, technologically-driven employment market. During these past several years, in addition to our other in-demand programs, WVJC has developed Nursing and Information Technology programs to help students take advantage of these growing fields.

In 2011, WVJC developed an online education delivery platform, known as WVJC Online, for several of its programs. The purpose of this online school was to support students who need to balance school with work and family. WVJC Online strives to maintain the same level of service students experience at the residential campus. The WVJC Online formula for student success and positive career outcomes has spread to the neighboring states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, and Kentucky, turning WVJC Online into a regional online college that students can trust.

In 2022, the Morgantown campus celebrated its 100th year of serving students and employers in the Morgantown community and surrounding states with its blend of hands-on training and student support systems.

“This school has been very helpful throughout my journey. I can go to anyone in the building for help if needed; they are all really friendly and great teachers!” – Katie Findley, WVJC Student
