What is the TEAS Test?
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam is a standardized test designed by the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) that is crucial for entering a health science program. Many institutions require potential students to achieve passing scores on the exam for admission into a nursing program.
The exam evaluates students in four main areas of study: Mathematics, Science, Reading, and English and Language Usage. Examinees are given three hours and twenty-nine minutes to complete a variety of 170 multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, multiple-select, ordered response, or hot spot questions.

WVJC Online’s TEAS Prep Course
WVJC Online’s TEAS Prep course offers comprehensive preparation for all four segments of the TEAS exam. The 4-week course is self-paced and completely virtual, allowing students to incorporate studying into their busy schedules.
Students in the course can access online study guides and quizzes and even have the option to attend weekly virtual sessions with the instructor to ask questions and receive further assistance.
High school students who plan to attend a WVJC Nursing program can attend a nursing workshop for prospective nurses and then enroll directly in the TEAS Prep course to prepare for the exam while completing their high school classes. Upon graduation, they will be ready to begin a WVJC School of Nursing program.
Meanwhile, non-high school students will complete the nursing admission process, which includes an initial phone call with an admissions team member to discuss their interest in nursing. Then, they schedule a college interview to discuss the details of the program and school from there. After that meeting, the nursing admissions team member will decide whether or not to recommend the potential nursing student to move forward in the process.
If they choose to move forward, they will register for the TEAS exam at a discounted rate of $35. Once completed, an admissions team member will review any areas of deficiency and enroll the student in that area of the course. For example, if a student does not pass the mathematics section of the TEAS exam, they will enroll in only the math portion of the prep course. Once they complete any necessary areas of the TEAS Prep course, students will retake the TEAS exam at no additional cost.
